The internet is a network of computer networks giving world wide electronic access through agreed rules and protocols. Through this network you can access stored information from any online storage. Or send and recieve messages, with attached documents, around the world in a matter of seconds.

        Access 
You can access the web through
Internet Service Provider (ISP) who offer a range of connection options to the Web from your computer. These can be a a fixed link, dial-up through an analogue modem or ISDN terminal adapter. If you do not have, or do not want to connect through, your own computer to the web you can access it through through a connection at your employment, through a public access site or a Cyber Café.
       
We offer a free ISP service though a local rate dialup, analogue and ISDN, with telephone help available at a rate of 50p per minute. Just point your browser to http://signup.jolymash.co.uk, complete the single page form, select your username and password for instant connection and access to the Web.
                 
                 
                 
       

Email
Unique email address provide the opportunity to send messages and attach documents to specific locations around the world in a mater of seconds. These addresses would normally be accessed through a specific email application.

Webmail, an email service application within a web page enabling you to access your email from any location where you can connect to the Internet. A number of providers only provide this service, as MSN Hotmail, BT Talk21 or genie.  These are recognised as convenience addresses and increasingly restrictions from employment or public access sites is restricted. In addition some have limitations on size or do not allow the use of an attachment.

Whilst you are receiving data from the Internet you may be at risk from malicious electronic attacks. These, known as a Virus, can cause data or application file corruption or possilbly deletion. Protect you system with a recognised virus protection application that has an option to update its virus definitions.

In addition when connected to the internet, using email or browsing, your system is vunerable to hackers. You can protect your system by installing a firewall to deny access to unwanted visitors. They can be installed in either a hardware or a software configuration.

     


Webmail is included in our free ISP service. Just point your browser to http://webmail.jolymash.co.uk, enter your email username and password and you can manage all your email, with no attachment restrictions, from anyone with internet access.

Webspace
Some ISPs provide webspace as part of their service or as an optional service subject to additional cost. So, if you have something to say and want to share with others, just create your web pages in HyperText Markup Language (HTML). This can be created using a text editor, such as Notepad, or a fully interactive application - Dreamweaver or Frontpage.

     
25mb of server storage is included in our free ISP service. Once you have registered with http://signup.jolymash.co.uk point your browser to http://webspace.jolymash.co.uk, enter your username and password and your connection information to access the webspace at 'www.yourname.jolymash.co.uk' (your website) is displayed.
                 
                 
                 
        Search
It is said that all the infomation you need is on the Web. Search engines assist you to access this data and whilst there are hundreds of such engines available, some general others specific, Google has been found to be a comprehensive and quick search engine.

Domain Name
Domain names offer a unique identification for your web and email address rather than the general one of www.baker.jolymash.co.uk, or the equivalent email address, bake@baker.jolymash.co.uk.

Register your domain name baker.co.uk and your new site address, www.baker.co.uk, or email address, bake@baker.co.uk however, such names are normally available on a first come first served basis and they are being taken up very quickly.

     


Domain Name Registration
is available through our partner site at Jolymash.net. Contact them at domain@jolymash.net giving as much information as possible, including the top level domain - ie .com or .co.uk.

In addition we arrange web forwarding - www.baker.co.uk would point to your free jolymash ISP service web space at www.baker.jolymash.co.uk. Microsoft IE5.5 has become the standard browser (whilst 6.0 is in Beta). If you have used our CD-ROM you will already have this browser, but if you have migrated to us from the web click on Browser to download the latest version.
